Moab Utah – Mountain Bike Tour

October 1, 2018 - October 6, 2018

BEST OF MOAB – MOUNTAIN BIKING TOUR

DATES:  OCT 1 – OCT 6, 2018

Moab is considered to be one of the premier mountain biking destinations in the world, and has been ranked by singletracks as the Mountain Biking Capital of the United States. With hundreds of miles of trails, in addition to limitless jeeping trails and climbing routes, it is the perfect destination for any outdoor enthusiast.   Aside from the heat, elevation, and technical rock features, riding in Moab presents an intangible challenge: where to ride.   One glance at a local topo/trail map, and it’s clear that you could spend weeks in Moab and not ride everything.   Having spent considerable time in Moab the past few years we put together what we consider to be the ideal itinerary for 4 solid days in Moab of adventure.   If you have the legs and lungs and want to hit the highlights… Moab a mountain biking paradise with something for everyone.   Combining natural beauty with top notch singletrack this is bucket list ride to check off this year.

The number of great trails and the variety of terrain allow us to customize your trip for a number of riding abilities.

DAY 2 – THE WHOLE ENCHILADA

(Burro Pass, Hazard, Kokopelli, UPS, LPS, Porcupine Rim)

The quintessential ride of Moab, this trail tackles some of the most scenic and challenging riding in the world. ‘The Whole Enchilada’ starts at 11,600 ft and descends nearly 8,000 ft in 32 miles with rocks, drops, and spectacular views of Castle Valley. Beginning on top of Burro Pass, you’ll start in the aspen trees and continue descending through several different climate zones on your way to the legendary Porcupine Rim singletrack. Considered by many to be one of the most memorable rides in the world, expect this adventure to last 4-6hrs even for the most experienced rider.

If less miles are desired riders can be dropped at Lower Porcupine Rim Trail to half the mileage.

DAY 3 – SLICKROCK

Slickrock is perhaps the most popular mountain bike trail in the world, boasting over 100,000 visitors per year. The Slickrock Bike Trail is only 12 miles long and but can prove absolutely challenging. Rarely do you leave your easiest gears and “spin” at an easy cadence. Inasmuch, bikers should allow 4 hours to ride the entire loop; more if side routes are explored.  The Slickrock Trail is one of the most unique rides anywhere and really helped put Moab on the map.  Ride on a series of petrified sand dunes which has formed the trail.  This trail has incredible vistas as well as steep ascents, descents and side slopes that will test your mountain bike skills and fitness level.

Evening Hike at Arches National Park to see Delicate Arch

DAY 4 – OPEN DAY  – Optional activity day to (e.g. explore downtown Moab, hikes to slot canyons, rafting, 4-wheeling or you can ride more as well.)

DAY 5 – MAG 7

Magnificent 7 ‘Mag 7’ is a series of trails that create a 26 mile point to point route. There are many choices on how to loop the Mag 7 trails that include Gemini Bridges, Crips Hole, Bull Run, Arth’s Corner, Great Escape, Little Canyon, Gold Bar, Golden Spike, Moab Brand Trails, Poison Spider and an option to finish down the infamous Portal Trail for expert riders. There are also several exit points making this a great ride to shuttle and/or cruise back into town on the bike path or Moab Brand Trails.

DAY 6 – DEPARTURE

Shuttle to Salt Lake City – Afternoon/Evening Flight home

FOOD

The food that we provide at camp is equally as important as a great day of adventure.   At the camps we cook all the meals, we strive to offer healthy locally sourced ingredients whenever possible. Our goal is to support the local community, wherever we are in the world, and that means working with the folks who source the local and regional ingredients.  We believe great adventure and great food bring people together like nothing else.    We make food that is specifically for high intensity cycling days.  Our focus is on healthy, lean proteins, lots of green leafy and a little taste of the Southwest in Moab, and plenty of tasty side dishes and a delicious dessert.

CAMPING

Moab is one a few select Yellow Bike Tour locations where we offer camping (and we highly recommend it).  Due to the mild temperatures and dry climate, there are few things better than enjoying a campfire side dinner under the desert sky.  You have to experience it to know why we love camping in Moab.

With Yellow Bike Tours camping, we take care of everything from tent set up, air mattresses, sleeping bags, camp chairs, camp lights.   So you don’t need to be worried about lugging camp gear to Moab.
